Russian FSB chief announces Doku Umarov "neutralization"

MOSCOW. April 8 (Interfax) - In the first quarter of 2014, Russian security services dismantled the subversive activities of Caucasus Emirate terrorist organization leader Doku Umarov and detained more than 200 militants, director of the Federal Security Service (FSB) Alexander Bortnikov said.

"As a result of the conducted operations, the activities of Caucasus Emirate terrorist organization leader Umarov were neutralized," Bortnikov said at a session of the National Antiterrorist Committee on Tuesday.

Thirty-three counterterrorist operations were conducted, as well as 13 gang leaders and 65 militants were eliminated in the first quarter of 2014, he said.

"More than 240 militants and their accomplices were detained," he added.
