Ukrainian Defense Ministry promises harsh measures in response to actions against servicemen
KYIV. April 16 (Interfax) - Measures are being taken to free Ukrainian servicemen detained in Krasny Luch in the Luhansk region, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said.
An officer and a contract soldier, who stopped to fix a service car, have been detained by armed people and taken to an unknown location, the Defense Ministry press office said in a statement on Wednesday.
"The Ukrainian Defense Ministry is warning individuals involved in this incident that their actions fall under the qualification of a range of Ukrainian Criminal Code articles," the document said.
"The Ukrainian Defense Ministry and Armed Forces leadership is currently taking measures necessary for the fastest release of the kidnapped servicemen. These measures are being carried out in close cooperation with relevant subdivisions of other law enforcement agencies involved in counter-terrorism efforts," the press office said.
"The Defense Ministry leadership intends to respond harshly to actions aimed against servicemen of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, who took the oath of faith to the Ukrainian people and carry out their duties honorably," the statement said.
The Defense Ministry reported slightly different circumstances of the disappearance earlier on Wednesday. "Two of ours had a broken car, following which they reached the nearest police station in Krasny Luch," a Defense Ministry source told Interfax. Namely, the police gave the servicemen over to local activists, the source said.
