Russian foreign minister to visit Nicaragua
MOSCOW. April 29 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will travel to Nicaragua on April 29 as part of his Latin American tour, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a commentary.
"Negotiations with [Nicaraguan] President Daniel Ortega will address key international problems and the prospects for promoting the bilateral political dialogue, broadening cooperation in different areas and bolstering the contractual and legal framework of bilateral relations," it said.
As the partnership between Russia and Nicaragua grows stronger, the two countries face "the need to broaden their contractual and legal framework," it said.
"Negotiations are currently under way on a set of draft bilateral agreements concerning cooperation between the customs services, as well as in civil aviation, space exploration, education, healthcare, finances and veterinary and phytosanitary security," the ministry said.
Russia and Nicaragua "share a vision of a fair world system, solidarity and mutual support in international affairs," it said.
Nicaragua has traditionally supported Russian priorities within the UN General Assembly. For example, it voted against adopting the UN General Assembly's draft resolution on Ukraine's territorial integrity on March 27, 2014.
"The enactment in September 2013 of the Intergovernmental agreement on the encouragement and mutual protection of investment has opened up good opportunities for promoting investment cooperation with Nicaragua," the Russian ministry said.
"Trade and economic cooperation will also benefit from broader direct contacts between the two countries' business circles, which should be involved in the implementation of bilateral projects more actively. In this context, we attach great importance to a visit to Russia by a Nicaraguan business mission in May or June this year," it said.
