Odesa police release anti-maidan activists detained on May 2
KYIV. May 4 (Interfax) - Officials of the temporary detention facility located in the Odesa city police department have released the activists who were detained during the May 2 unrest.
The released activists are opponents of the current Kyiv administration.
The other detainees who are located in the temporary detention facility remain in detention, Volodymyr Shabliyenko, the head of the public relations department of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry's Main Department in the region, told Interfax.
Shabliyenko said the police are now negotiating with the protesters.
According to the Ukrainian media, the police have released thirty activists. At the same time, the protesters are not leaving. They are saying the released people have not received their documents back and therefore the anti-maidan activists are concerned that they may be detained again.
The people were released after a group of anti-maidan activists tried to storm the building of the police in Odesa, where their comrades were held on Sunday. During the storm. They threw stones at the windows of the police building and broke the gates. The police prevented the activists from entering the building.
Mass clashes between anti-maidan activists and maidan supporters took place in Odesa on May 2. The clashes ended in a fire in the city's Union House. According to eyewitnesses, the building caught fire after right radical activists stared throwing Molotov cocktails at it. Forty-six people were killed in the tragedy and over 200 people sought medical assistance.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said in Odesa on Sunday the unrest in Odesa will be investigated by a special group of investigators from the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office.
