UN Under-Secretary-General discusses Ukraine in Moscow, Moscow urges UN Secretariat to be objective, unbiased

MOSCOW. May 6 (Interfax) - Moscow urges UN Secretariat executives to be objective in regard to the situation in Ukraine, the Russian Foreign Ministry said following a meeting between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov and UN Under-Secretary-General Jeffrey Feltman in Moscow on Tuesday.

"Detailed exchanges of opinions on a number of international agenda issues, including the development of the domestic crisis in Ukraine, was held. In this context Gatilov urged the leaders of the UN Secretariat to be utterly unbiased and objective in their situational assessments," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

The parties confirmed that truly comprehensive dialog within Ukraine will help to de-escalate the crisis, the document said.

"Opinions have also been exchanged in regard to prospects of resuming inter-Syrian talks in the framework of the international conference on Syria in Geneva and advancing Cyprian inter-ethnic dialog," the statement said.

It has been reported that Feltman would spend several hours in Moscow on Tuesday and will go to Kyiv on the same day. Feltman said earlier at a UN Security Council meeting in New York that in both cities he would confirm the appeal of the UN secretary general for restraint and an immediate return to dialog.
