Azeri journalist convicted for smuggling weapons
BAKU. May 15 (Interfax) - The Baku court for grave crimes on Thursday sentenced Parviz Gashimli, a correspondent with the Azeri newspaper Bizim Yol, to eight years in prison, the local media have reported.
The journalist and his accomplice Tavakul Gurbanov, who was also sentenced to eight years in prison, were found guilty of smuggling weapons and ammunition by previous concert by a group of people, a crime enshrined by Articles 228.2.1 and 228.2.2 of the Azeri Criminal Code.
Gashimli was arrested by Azeri National Security Ministry officials on September 17, 2013.
