MinFin discussing partnership with Visa, MasterCard similar to Turkey, Belarus

ST. PETERSBURG. May 23 (Interfax) - Russia's Finance Ministry discussed the possibility of creating a partnership on forming a national payment card system with Visa and MasterCard similar to the systems in Turkey and Belarus, Deputy Finance Minister Alexei Moiseyev told journalists at St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

He said this idea "came up in conversation."

Moiseyev said the configuration of the possible partnership might be determined only after talks take place among the heads of interested Russian ministries, Visa and MasterCard.

"The ministers will hold talks tomorrow [Friday], [and] today [Thursday] I discussed possible options. They will approve all other forms [of the partnership] after the ministers hold talks and reach a decision with the payment systems," he said.
