Lavrov: Support widening to Russian idea to prevent outer space weaponization

MOSCOW. May 28 (Interfax) - Russia and Argentina have pledged not to be the first to deploy weapons in outer space, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"A good example of the proximity of our positions in global affairs is the just signed joint statement, which pledged not to be the first to deploy weapons in outer space," Lavrov said on Wednesday, following negotiations with his Argentinean counterpart Hector Marcos Timerman.

"Support for this Russian initiative has been broadening," Lavrov indicated. "Hopefully, a session of the UN General Assembly will pass an applicable resolution in a multilateral format this year."
