Medvedchuk advises Kyiv to negotiate with those offering armed resistance in eastern Ukraine

KYIV. June 26 (Interfax) - People, who really control the situation on sites with weapons in hands, should participate in the negotiating process on the situation in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, head of the Ukrainian Choice public organization Viktor Medvedchuk said.

"It is important to understand that it is necessary to negotiate with those, who really control the situation in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions and offer armed resistance, so that dialogue becomes truly successful," Medvedchuk was quoted as saying in an article posted on Ukrainian Choice website on Thursday.

"While inviting to the negotiating table representatives of the authorities and political elite alone, Kyiv should ask a simple question - will they be able to ensure the implementation of memorandums signed? If not, the peaceful plan will turn out to be yet another nonviable initiative of the center," Medvedchuk said.

The strategy not to allow these or those forces to the round table is "not just politically short-sighted but criminal," he said.

"In this case instead of a dialogue we will get bossy monologue of those with power, which a priori can not be heard and taken in regions," Medvedchuk said.

Constructive wide-format talks with real participants of the conflict able to affect the situation in the region are needed in order "to close the issue" of Donbas once and for all, he said.
