Mock satellite, Angara's 2nd stage reach estimated impact site in Kamchatka - ministry
MOSCOW. July 9 (Interfax-AVN) - The first test launch of the Angara rocket has been a success, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"The non-detachable weight-dimension mockup of a payload with the second stage fell down in the designated location at the Kura testing site on the Kamchatka Peninsula within 5,700 kilometers from the launch site," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement obtained by Interfax-AVN on Wednesday.
The launch and flight of the Angara-1.2PP carrier rocket from Plesetsk Cosmodrome went as planned, the statement said
"The first stage was released and the Angara-1.2PP rocket's nose cone discharged at the estimated time in the estimated location above the southern part of the Barents Sea within the radio visibility of the automatic ground control center of the Space Command of the Aerospace Defense Troops," the statement said.
"According to the approved cyclogram, the flight of the Angara-1.2PP space rocket followed the ballistic trajectory of the Russian Federation territory," the statement said.
The main propulsion unit of the rocket's second stage was switched off at 4:08 p.m. Moscow time.
