Tajik border guards open fire at Kyrgyz border guards attempting to stop border violation - Bishkek
BISHKEK. July 10 (Interfax) - Gunfire was exchanged between Kyrgyz and Tajik border units at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border in Tamdyk area in the Batken region in southern Kyrgyzstan.
"Gunfire between border guards of the two states was provoked by illegitimate actions of Tajik citizens," Kyrgyz State Border Service spokesperson Gulmira Borubaeva told Interfax on Thursday.
On Thursday about 30 Tajik citizens attempted to put a pipeline from Kyrgyzstan from the Karavshin River to the village of Bedak located in the Tajik enclave Vorukh, Borubaeva said.
"The border unit of the Kyrgyz State Border Service, which arrived to the site, demanded to stop putting the pipeline because works were being held at border area undocumented, however in response to the demands of the Kyrgyz border guards Tajik citizens threw stones at them and the border unit was forced to fire warning shots in the air in order to prevent illegitimate actions," Borubaeva said.
"A Tajik border unit was not far from the site where works were carried out and it opened fire at Kyrgyz border guards, as a result of which short exchange of gunfire between the two states' birder units occurred," she said.
"According to the preliminary information, the Kyrgyz party has no injured or wounded in the incident and it is planned to hold a meeting between border representatives of the parties," Borubaeva said.
