Russia welcomes truce in Gaza, urges to observe it
MOSCOW. Aug 5 (Interfax) - Moscow is urging Israel and Palestine to follow the 3-day truce declared in Gaza, the Russian Foreign Ministry posted a statement on its website on Tuesday.
"Moscow welcomes this agreement on ceasefire and urges conflict parties to follow it rigorously so that the opportunity to achieve stable truce emerges in the framework of relevant Egyptian initiative," the document said.
On August 5 at 8 a.m. local time the 72-hour humanitarian ceasefire, which was reached with the Egyptian mediation, comes into effect in Gaza between Israel and Palestinian groups operating in the enclave, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"We assume that stable and long-term resolution of the Gaza issue is impossible without mutual understanding, which would rule out the occurrence of forceful relapses in future. We are certain that resuming the Palestinian-Israeli talks on the final status of the Palestinian territories upon a known international legal basis would assist situation stabilization as well," the statement said.
