Ukrainian pilot's defense lawyer to seek case closure
MOSCOW. Aug 11 (Interfax) - The defense lawyers for the Ukrainian female pilot Nadezhda Savchenko who is suspected of killing Russian VGTRK journalists Igor Kornelyuk and Anton Voloshin will be petitioning for the case to be closed, said lawyer Mark Feigin.
"First we will file a petition for Sinyagovsky's questioning to be added to the Savchenko case files and then will petition for the case closure," the lawyer wrote on Twitter.
According to earlier reports, Savchenko, 31, fought in eastern Ukraine in the volunteer battalion Aydar and was taken prisoner by militia near the city of Schastya, Luhansk region, in June. According to the Russian Investigative Committee, Savchenko crossed the border without documents, pretending to be a refugee, and was detained for identification, which showed that she was a suspect in the case involving the killing of Russian VGTRK journalists Igor Kornelyuk and Anton Voloshin near Luhansk. She was formally charged with murder on July 9.
Savchenko denies her guilt and says she was abducted on the territory of Ukraine.
