Editor-in-chief of Dagestan district newspaper attacked

MAKHACHKALA. Aug 21 (Interfax) - The editor-in-chief of Dagestan's Derbentskiye Izvestia newspaper, Magomed Khanmagomedov, was beaten up by unknown persons at his own office.

Khanmagomedov himself told Interfax that he had been attacked by two men at around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

"They were around 30 years old, well-built and dressed in sport suits," he said.

Khanmagomedov said he had already alerted the police about the incident.

A spokesman for Dagestan's Interior Ministry confirmed this in an interview with Interfax.

"Such a report has been received and registered. An inquiry is under way. All circumstances are being established," the spokesman said.
