U.S. diplomat: Russia directly involved in fighting in eastern Ukraine
KYIV. Aug 28 (Interfax) - U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt insists that Russia has sent its military servicemen and anti-aircraft systems to eastern Ukraine and is now directly involved in the fighting on Ukrainian territory.
"Russian supplied tanks, armored vehicles, artillery and multiple rocket launchers have been insufficient to defeat Ukraine' armed forces," Pyatt said via Twitter on Thursday.
He claimed that Russia has also sent newest anti-aircraft systems, including the Pantsir-S1 (NATO reporting name SA-22), to eastern Ukraine.
Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov had denied allegations on supplies of Russian weapons to Ukraine on Wednesday. "This statement is not new. Such statements have been made regularly, and Russia has regularly denied them and said that this information does not reflect the reality," Peskov told reporters on Wednesday.
