Only joint international effort can beat terrorists in Syria - ministry
MOSCOW. Oct 2 (Interfax) - Officials in Moscow are certain that only joint efforts to launch an intra-Syrian dialogue, and not U.S. air strikes, will help achieve a real victory over terrorists in Syria.
"We are convinced that real victory over terrorists in Syria can be achieved not by air strikes carried out by the United States and its allies without sanctions by the UN Security Council and consent from the Syrian legitimate government, but by joint efforts of all states on the recognized international-law basis. Final resolution of the domestic armed conflict in this country is only possible through achieving Syrian national accord and a political settlement," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a commentary on its website on Thursday.
The ministry has resolutely condemned the terror attacks that occurred in the city of Homs on October 1.
"Moscow most resolutely condemns the unprecedented violent crimes which have killed the most vulnerable part of the Syrian civilian population - children. This is particularly outrageous," the ministry said.
The twin attacks in Homs took place outside a school where a car packed with explosives blew up as children were leaving the school after classes. The second explosion was staged by a suicide bomber outside the school, the ministry recalled. As a result, more than 100 people have been injured and over 40 children aged under 12 died.
To resolve the Syrian crisis nations "should take a clear and unambiguous stance in the interests of reaching a settlement through an inclusive, intra-Syrian dialogue and resumption of the political process started in Geneva," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
