Overnight artillery strikes in Donbas kill one Ukrainian serviceman, injure two
KYIV/DONETSK. Nov 12 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian army has reported overnight attacks by the militia, who fired on army positions along the Bakhmutka highway with Grad rocket launchers and mortars, aiming to seize a strategic stretch of the road between Luhansk and Sievierodonetsk, said the press center of the army operation in eastern Ukraine.
"They shelled a roadblock, and fortified and observation posts near the towns of Krymske, Donetsky and Vilkhove," the press center wrote on Facebook on Wednesday morning.
One serviceman was killed and another was wounded in the Grad attacks on Ukrainian positions near the town of Shchastya.
The militia again shelled Ukrainian positions at Donetsk airport on Wednesday morning. "A Ukrainian defender was injured in the attack. He is receiving medical assistance," the press center said.
In turn, Kyiv-based Information Residence Group leader Dmytro Tymchuk reported over 50 attacks on Ukrainian positions in Donbas and two clashes between the Ukrainian army and the militia during the past day.
Tymchuk wrote on Facebook on Wednesday that the enemy had been active in the Luhansk, Debaltseve and Donetsk sectors and tensions persisted at Donetsk airport, Krymske, Stanitsa Luhanska, Avdiivka, Zaytseve, Chornukhyne, Novomykhailivka, Shchastya and Nikishyne.
A new tactical group is being formed by the enemy near Pervomaisk, Tymchuk added.
Meanwhile, the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) militia staff reported ongoing army artillery strikes on the militia positions and Donetsk residential areas from the north.
"On November 11 and in the morning of November 12 our positions came tube artillery fire from Piski and Avdiivka many times. The strikes were focused on our positions at Donetsk airport and several shells hit residential areas in the Oktyabrsky neighborhood and the outskirts of the Kyivsky district," a staff representative told Interfax.
