Russia generates 0.8% less electricity in Jan-Oct, generation at HPPs falls for 6 months straight
MOSCOW. Nov 19 (Interfax) - Russia generated 858 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in January-October 2014, down 0.8% year-on-year, the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) said.
Output rose 1.6% year-on-year in October alone. Due to low water levels, hydropower plants produced less electricity for the sixth month in a row, reducing output by 13.3% year-on-year in October, and by 5.8% in comparison with September 2014. For the 10M HPP production fell only 0.4% year-on-year.
In October nuclear power plants and thermal power plants increased production by 9.5% and 3.3%, respectively, in comparison with October of last year.
Nuclear plants produced 148 billion kWh in the 10M of 2014, up 6.1%, while hydropower plants produced 151 billion kWh (-0.4%) and thermal power plants - 559 billion kWh (-2.5%).
Russia generated 979 million Gcal of heat in January-October, down 2.6% year-on-year. Thermal plants produced 444 million Gcal, down 2.2%, boiler plants - 468 million Gcal, down 3.4%, and industrial recovery units 61.3 million Gcal, down 0.5%. Heat output increased 5.3% year-on-year in October alone.
