Russia is interested in working with Israel on Middle East issues - Lavrov

MOSCOW. Jan 26 (Interfax) - Russia attaches special importance to interaction with Israel on the issue of ensuring security in the Middle East, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday.

"We are interested in developing relations between our countries. We attach special importance to the interaction between Russia and Israel on the search for fair and long-lasting peace in the Middle East, ensuring Israel's safety, and the realization of the lawful wishes of the people of Palestine," Lavrov said during a meeting with his Israeli counterpart Avigdor Lieberman in Moscow.

Lavrov also said the participants in the upcoming negotiations "will sign a plan of consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Russia and Israel."

Lieberman, for his part, said that "the Middle East remains one of the most vital issues."

He said he is hoping that the upcoming meeting "will promote understanding" on the search for solutions to this issue.
