Kyiv wants new sanctions to be imposed on Russia

KYIV. Feb 24 (Interfax) - Kyiv is urging the international community to impose new sanctions on Russia.

"By its actions, Russia is demonstrating that it is not going to implement the Minsk agreements, in particular, to immediately withdraw its troops and hardware from Ukrainian territory, as is stipulated by the relevant document. In this situation, we are convinced that the international community has no other choice today but force Russia to [make] peace by introducing new and more efficient restrictive measures," Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Yevhen Perebyinis said at a news briefing in Kyiv on Tuesday.

"Russia has once again crossed all red lines, and therefore the Kremlin can be stopped only by urgent consolidated actions by the entire civilized world," he added.

Moscow has said repeatedly that there are no Russian troops on Ukrainian territory.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had criticized Kyiv for trying to blame Moscow for its setbacks in the eastern part of Ukraine in a Monday interview.
