Group of gunmen trapped in dugout in Dagestan - National Antiterrorist Committee
MOSCOW. Feb 25 (Interfax) - Law enforcement agencies are storming a dugout in the Kizilyurt district of Dagestan, where a group of armed gunmen has been trapped, the Russian National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC) reports.
"Servicemen from the NAC operational headquarters in Dagestan discovered a dugout in a windbreak between the populated areas of Nechayevka and Sultan-Yangyurt, where a group of armed thugs was hiding," a NAC spokesperson told Interfax on Wednesday.
The gunmen refused to negotiate and opened fire at the troops, he said.
"An active phase of a special operation is being conducted now," he said.
The head of the Federal Security Service (FSB) department for Dagestan decided to launch a counterterrorist operation at 7:30 a.m., which implies the imposition of special legal regulations on the area within which it is being conducted.
"The necessary forces and resources have been concentrated at the counterterrorist operation area. The adjacent territory has been cordoned off," the NAC press service said.
