Russia backs Egypt in combating terrorism - Russian defense minister
MOSCOW. March 3 (Interfax-AVN) - The neutralization of extremist and terrorist groups acting on the Sinai Peninsula meets the interests of not only Egypt but also all countries of the region, Russian Defense Minister Army Gen. Sergei Shoigu said on Tuesday.
"We support Cairo's antiterrorist activities, including its efforts to normalize the situation on the Sinai. We are sure that the neutralization of extremist and terrorist groups acting on the peninsula meets the interests of not only the Egyptians but also all countries of the region," Shoigu said in opening negotiations with Egyptian Defense and Military Industry Minister Col. Gen. Sedki Sobhi Sayyid Ahmed.
The Russian defense minister said the two planned to analyze "what has been done over the past year on bolstering bilateral ties in the military field."
