Belarus may create unified operator for dairy product exports outside CIS

MINSK. March 10 (Interfax) - Belarusian state-owned CJSC Meat-Dairy Company (MDC) may be designated the operator for exports of Belarusian dairy products to non-CIS countries, the company said in a statement.

The issue of giving MDC unified operator status was discussed last week at a meeting of the consultative council on developing the dairy industry and exports held at the Agriculture and Food Ministry.

"With the goal of effectively cooperating on the international milk and dairy products market and of eliminating possible unsanctioned deliveries of dairy products to non-CIS markets, the most pressing matter now is the shift from a fragmented presence on foreign markets to organization of a unified sales channel for dairy products, namely dry milk, butter and whey," the statement says.

MDC "has experience creating the conditions needed to successfully promote products, in CIS and non-CIS markets and has already shown what it can do as the operator of the dairy and meat products markets."

MDC was formed by the government in 2009 to boost exports of meat and dairy products. It works with meat and dairy enterprises in every region of Belarus. MDC also engages in global market research, promotion of Belarusian producers on external markets and logistics.
