Belarus, not Lukashenko to be invited to Eastern Partnership summit - ministry
MINSK. March 18 (Interfax) - Latvia will not be inviting Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in person to attend an Eastern Partnership (EP) summit in Riga, but will send the invitation to the Belarusian state.
"This matter is now being decided, invitations will be sent to the states, not officials. Over the next two months, I think, we will understand, via diplomatic channels, who will represent which state," Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics said in an interview with the Latvian radio.
Who will go to the Riga summit can be decided by Belarus itself, he said. The same scheme will apply towards the other EP countries, Rinkevics said.
It was reported that the Eastern Partnership summit will be held in Riga this May.
