Merkel: we need to work together in the most difficult situations, look for their diplomatic solution with Russia

MOSCOW. May 10 (Interfax) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she is ready to work with Russia to find solutions in the most difficult situations.

"We have learned a lesson from our sad experience, namely that we need to work together, need to cooperate, including in difficult situations like the current situation. And [we need] to look for diplomatic solutions," Merkel said during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin.

For this reason, Merkel said that "it is good that we today have an opportunity to discuss bilateral relations, the relations between Russia and the EU and, of course, discuss the events and the territorial integrity in Ukraine."

"I am glad to meet you," Merkel told the Russian president.

Merkel reiterated that she is "very happy to come to Moscow to remember of innocent victims and the people of the Soviet Union on the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II."
