EU summit's instruction on plan to counter Russia's 'disinformation campaign' in the works - spokesperson
BRUSSELS. June 4 (Interfax) - An instruction by the European Council of March 19, 2015, to design a strategic communication plant to counter Russia's disinformation campaigns is at the stage of being executed, says Maja Kocjancic, a spokeswoman for the EU diplomacy chief, Federica Mogherini.
This work is underway, she told Interfax in Brussels on Thursday.
Kocjancic was responding to a request to comment on several European media allegations that a unit of specialists in countering the Kremlin propaganda has already been set up as part of the European External Action Service from among EU representatives with a perfect command of Russian, who will soon take up their duties in Brussels.
Kocjancic cited the final document of the European Council of March 19, 2015, in which the European Council stresses the need to counter Russia's disinformation campaigns and urges the EU high commissioner for foreign affairs (Mogherini) to devise, jointly with EU member states and institutions, an action plan for strategic communication by this June. Setting up a communications team is the first step, the EC said.
