Russian deputy foreign minister Karasin, Tagliavini successor discuss prospects of direct dialogue between Kyiv, Donetsk and Luhansk

MOSCOW. June 22 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin and Austrian diplomat Martin Sajdik, whose candidacy has been nominated to replace Heidi Tagliavini in the post of special representative of the OSCE chairman in the Contact Group on Ukraine, pointed out the importance of direct dialogue between Kyiv and Donbas for the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict in a meeting in Moscow, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Monday.

The meeting participants "pointed out the importance of making progress in the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine on the basis of an objective evaluation of the fulfillment by the sides of the provisions of the Minsk agreements," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

The meeting participants "emphasized the importance of direct dialogue and interaction between Kyiv and Donbas on all levels in the Contact Group," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a report posted on its website.
