Approx. 36,000 refugees from southeastern Ukraine staying in Rostov region - acting governor
ROSTOV-ON-DON. July 7 (Interfax) - About 36,000 people from southeastern Ukraine are staying in the Rostov region, acting Rostov Region Governor Vasily Golubev has told Interfax in an interview.
"The emergency situation regime remains in place on the region's territory. About 36,000 people from southeastern Ukraine are currently present in the Rostov region. About 10,000 people asked us for assistance in their employment and received jobs. Many offered their professional expertise to businesses, companies. As far as I know, our businessmen are helping such specialists get employed," Golubev said.
"Some of the people who came from Donbas have joined the program of compatriots' resettlement from abroad," he said, adding that program benefits had been granted to approximately 900 people.
Yet refugees are arriving daily and are being reassigned to other regions, Golubev said.
"Over 50,000 people have been reassigned since June 2014. Our region operates four stationary shelters for 1,500 people. Considering tensions in southeastern Ukraine, we had to deploy two tent camps in the Matveyev-Kurgan district and the city of Novoshakhtinsk, each accommodating 500 people and capable of growing to 2,000 occupancy. Forty-five shelters for 4,800 people are ready to be deployed in municipalities of the region," Golubev said.
