Minnikhanov registered as candidate for post of head of Tatarstan
KAZAN. July 29 (Interfax) - The Central Elections Commission of Tatarstan on Wednesday registered Rustam Minnikhanov as a candidate for the post of head of the republic, an Interfax correspondent has reported from the meeting of the region's Central Elections Commission.
Minnikhanov was the first registered candidate.
According to earlier reports, three more people are seeking the post of head of Tatarstan besides Minnikhanov, who was nominated by United Russia: Khafiz Mirgalimov (first secretary of Tatarstan's committee of the Russian Communist Party), Rushaniya Bilgildeyeva (council chairman of the regional division of the party A Just Russia), and Ruslan Yusupov (deputy coordinator of the office of the Liberal Democratic Party in the republic).
The powers of Minnikhanov, who had headed the region since 2010, expired in March 2015. He was appointed acting head of the republic by a presidential decree.
The elections for the head of Tatarstan are scheduled for September 13. The head of the region is elected for a period of five years.
