Important changes already expected in Moscow-Tehran ties in September - Iranian ambassador in Russia

MOSCOW. Aug 19 (Interfax) - Iranian Ambassador in Moscow Mehdi Sanaei said he hopes for major changes in all fields of Russian-Iranian relations from September this year.

"Starting from September we will become witnesses of the whole cycle of changes in all spheres of relations between our two countries," Sanaei said in his blog on Wednesday.

The Iranian ambassador in Russia said that the two countries should take sweeping measures to bolster their relationship.

"In new conditions, given a decline in the negative impact of third-party factors, including sanctions, it is possible to take additional constructive and major steps to strengthen bilateral relations," Sanaei said.

Meanwhile, he said that Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif's visit to Moscow on August 17 and his talks "with the Russian leadership amid the current crisis in different regions of the Middle East were effective in searching for means of resolving regional questions."

The ambassador said that during Zarif's visit special attention was given to the preservation of the priority of developing relations with Russia in Iranian foreign policy. "New ways were also discussed to provide additional advancement in relations between the two countries," he said.

Sanaei said that "for the last two years the presidents of the two countries met five times and we witnessed positive changes in all spheres of political and economic relations, as well as the spheres of security, science and culture." The ambassador also noted an increase in bilateral trade.
