Russian military in Transdniestria drill interaction in case of regional destabilization

MOSCOW. Aug 19 (Interfax-AVN) - Live-fire exercises took place at an army shooting range of the operational group of Russian troops in the Transdniestrian region of Moldova, the headquarters of the Western Military District said.

"The shootings involved around 400 servicemen from units of the motor rifle battalion and more than 30 units of combat and special machinery," the press service of the Western Military District said in a statement received by Interfax-AVN on Wednesday.

The press release said that the military personnel have repelled an attack of subversive reconnaissance groups and have passed through the mined areas during a march of more than 30 kilometers.

"When practicing the issues of interaction of units amid the destabilization of the situation the advancement of a motor rifle platoon to the shooting line was drilled and the tasks of hitting a simulated enemy were performed," it reads.

The drills were held as part of combat coordination of platoons. Meanwhile, motor rifle units of the operational group of Russian troops have interacted with peacekeeping units, drilling actions amid destabilization of the situation in the security zone, the Western Military District headquarters said.

A rotation of units of Russian military contingent of the peacekeeping forces is planned in October 2015, it said.
