Over 8,000 Russian, Belarusian servicemen to take part in Union Shield 2015 exercises - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Aug 26 (Interfax-AVN) - Over 8,000 Russian and Belarusian servicemen and about 400 pieces of military hardware will be involved in the joint operational exercises Union Shield 2015 to be conducted from September 10 to 16, the Russian Defense Ministry reports.

"In particular, about 80 attack, fighter, army, and military transport planes and helicopters are to be involved in performing training missions," the Western Military District press service said in a report shared with Interfax-AVN on Wednesday.

To simulate a combat situation as much as possible, several thousand imitation rounds weighing in total over 15 tonnes have been allocated, it said.

Military engineers from the Western Military District are preparing training ranges in the Leningrad and Pskov regions for the maneuvers.
