Ukraine decreases gas transits 8.6% over 8 months, rising 50% in August
KYIV. Sept 2 (Interfax) - From January-August 2015 Ukraine decreased transports of natural gas to Europe and Moldova 8.6% year-on-year, to 42.320 billion cubic meters (bcm).
According to OJSC Ukrtransgaz, 40.454 bcm was transported to Europe and 1.865 bcm was transported to Moldova.
The transit of gas to Europe and Moldova in August increased 48.4% year-on-year, up to 6.737 bcm. Gas transits through Ukraine to Europe were 6.563 bcm last month, and 174.3 million cubic meters to Moldova.
Gas transits through Ukraine in 2014 were down 27.8% year-on-year to 62.197 bcm, and 31.4% in Q1, 2015, to 12.765 bcm.
Ukrtransgaz, which is 100% owned by Naftogaz Ukraine, operates a system of main gas pipelines and 12 underground gas storage facilities in the country with a total capacity of 31 bcm.
