Participants of street protest in Chisinau offer govt to hold meeting on Tuesday evening

CHISINAU. Sept 8 (Interfax) - Representatives of protesters in the center of the Moldovan capital set a time for a meeting with the country's leadership. The meeting is scheduled at 5 p.m. at the Moldovan government building, Andrej Nestase, the chairman of the Great National Assembly Council they created, told reporters.

"Moldovan authorities are demonstrating negligence to the people, refusing to conduct a dialogue with the Great National Assembly Council. Under these circumstances we got in touch with representatives of European countries, our partners for development. Today we have already met the leadership of the European Union delegation and told them about our demands and plans. We have set a 5 p.m. meeting and we will wait for the president, prime minister and parliament speaker to come," Nestase said.

If they don't agree to come to the government building representatives of the protesters will go to the president and the parliament speaker themselves to place tents there, he said. "We will go there, if necessary, but we hope that this will not be needed," Nestase said.

The tent camp deployed by the protesters keeps growing. If on Sunday around 30 tents were placed, there were around 100 on Monday evening and their number reached 200 by Tuesday evening.

It was reported that tens of thousands of people gathered on Sunday for the biggest protest action in central Chisinau in the past few years. They have adopted a resolution which demands early parliamentary elections, the dismissal of the president, the holding of national presidential elections, the replacement of the leadership of law enforcement agencies and the return of one billion euro, stolen from the banking system.

Participants in the rally decided to continue a non-stop protest action. They have installed the tents on Great National Assembly Square in central Chisinau, dubbing the tent camp as "The City of Dignity and Justice."
