Russian embassy refrains from commenting on situation surrounding air transit to Syria through Iraq

MOSCOW/BAGHDAD. Sept 17 (Interfax) - The Russian embassy in Baghdad is not commenting on the situation surrounding the use by Russian planes of Iraqi air space to fly to Syria.

"We are not commenting on this issue," the Russian diplomatic mission in Iraq told Interfax.

According to earlier media reports, the U.S. asked the Iraqi authorities to close the country's air space to Russian planes flying to Syria.
