Federation Council expects French Culture Ministry's explanation for Charlie Hebdo's A321 crash cartoons
MOSCOW. Nov 6 (Interfax) - The French Culture Ministry ought to respond to the Charlie Hebdo satirical magazine's publication of cartoons about the crash of the Russian Airbus A321 passenger plane in Egypt, Frants Klintsevich, first deputy chairman of the Defense and Security Committee of the Federation Council, the upper chamber of Russia's parliament, has said.
"At least, Russia is awaiting explanations from the culture minister of France," Klintsevich was quoted as saying by his press service.
UNESCO should offer its response to this publication as well, the Russian senator said.
"I cannot understand how this could have happened in principle. From the point of view of morality and ethics, it is not even the level of the Neanderthal man. And, what is most striking is that these cartoons appeared in the magazine following the truly worldwide support that was extended in response to the well-known terror act. Obviously, they [Charlie Hebdo] saw this support as the carte blanche for any actions," he said.
"I think that Western society should make it clear that the magazine represents only its own opinion. Otherwise, certain generalizations will become possible," Klintsevich said.
