Georgia tightens border control

TBILISI. Nov 18 (Interfax) - Measures to fight terrorism and increase security were discussed at the meeting of the Council on Crisis Management and Security of the Georgian government on Wednesday.

"We had a detailed discussion of issues associated with security in Georgia. I cannot speak about the details, but all agencies were ordered to take relevant measures within their powers. Security issues will be permanently monitored by the government" the Council's Secretary Mindia Janelidze told reporters.

He said that, according to international data, Georgia is among the world's ten safest countries.

Georgian Interior Minister Giorgi Mgebrishvili, who took part in the meeting, said the Interior Ministry has tightened border control, both at checkpoints and in the 'green line', and also in places where many people gather.
