Russians should exercise utmost caution in Belgium due to terrorist threat - Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Nov 26 (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry urged Russian nationals who are currently in Belgium to exercise utmost caution due to the risk of terror attacks.

"Belgian security services have information that some terrorists ready to use arms and explosives, including suicide vests, are in Brussels now," Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.

Therefore, "elevated security regimes remain in place for employees at Russian overseas establishments and their families in Belgium," she said.

"We urge all Russian citizens who are in Belgium now to exercise utmost caution, following the recommendations given by local law enforcement agencies," Zakharova said.

She recalled that it was decided to raise the terror threat level up to the highest, the fourth, in the Brussels area on November 21 following the meeting of the Belgian National Security Council.

"This is a serious and imminent threat," Zakharova explained.

For the rest of the country, "alert level three will remain in force, [which means] a possible and probable threat," she said.

This is because Belgian law enforcement agencies are still hunting for several individuals who are capable of organizing terror attacks on a scale comparable to those in Paris.
