Putin declares extension of maternity capital program for minimum of 2 years

MOSCOW. Dec 3 (Interfax) - The maternity capital program in Russia will be extended for a minimum of two year, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"I consider it necessary to extend the maternity capital program for at least two more years," Putin said on Thursday during an address to the Federal Assembly.

"Next year the maternity capital program is expiring. It has already reached more than 6.5 million Russian families, including in Crimea and Sevastopol," he said.

"We understand that all of these, our efforts, have not been enough so far in order to relieve the demographic wound from the past which Russia suffered. Of course, we understand how hard this is for the budget. These are large, serious amounts of money. And we spoke earlier about, how we will need to see, if we can, as financiers say, bear it. Can we reliably ensure and pay. We can, in spite of any problems," Putin said speaking about the extension of the maternity capital program.
