Russian, Egyptian foreign ministers reaffirm determination to make list of terror groups in Syria
MOSCOW. Dec 5 (Interfax) - The foreign ministers of Russia and Egypt, Sergei Lavrov and Sameh Shoukry, spoke by telephone on Saturday to discuss the Syrian peace process.
"The conversation focused on the task of coordinating Russian-Egyptian efforts to help unite the Syrian opposition forces that reject terrorism to swiftly establish the inter-Syrian dialogue, as is envisaged by the 2012 Geneva Communique," the Russian Foreign Ministry said on its website on Saturday.
"The ministers reaffirmed Russia's and Egypt's determination to continue their active work as part of the International Syria Support Group to implement the agreements already reached in Vienna, including the agreement to compose a list of terror groups operating in Syria," the ministry said.
"(The parties) stressed the shared view about the importance of ensuring, along with the leading role of UN Secretary General's Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura, the most representative nature of the opposition delegation, including the attendees of the opposition meetings held in Moscow and Cairo earlier, for negotiations with the Syrian government," the ministry said.
The two ministers also discussed several issues concerning further cooperation between Moscow and Cairo.
The telephone conversation was held at the Egyptian request.
