One killed in blast on ship under repairs in St. Petersburg
ST. PETERSBURG. Dec 7 (Interfax) - One person was killed and three more wounded after a blast in the hold of a ship under repairs at the Northern Shipyards in St. Petersburg.
"There was a blast without fire in the hold of a ship under repairs at 10:40 a.m. on December 7 at 6, Korabelnaya St., in the Kirovsky district of St. Petersburg. One person was killed, three more were wounded. Twenty units of equipment and 75 staff members of the Emergency Situations Ministry worked at the scene," the press service of the ministry's department in the city reported on Monday.
The Northern Shipyards are located at the address stated in the report. The shipyard did not comment on the report for Interfax in any way.
Earlier a source in law enforcement said that three people were injured in an explosion on a ship in the grounds of the shipyard.
"Early reports indicate that the explosion took place on a foreign ship, three persons were injured," the source said.
The press service of the St. Petersburg main department of the Investigative Committee of Russia said that its officers had left for the scene to look into the circumstances of the incident.
