China stands for international anti-terrorism cooperation - Chinese Ambassador to Russia

MOSCOW. Dec 11 (Interfax) - China is against any forms of terrorism and wants international anti-terrorism cooperation to be bolstered, Chinese Ambassador to Russia Li Hui told Interfax and the Chinese media ahead of a regular meeting between the Chinese and Russian prime ministers.

"China is strongly opposed to any forms of terrorism and to double standards in this matter. China is expecting the international community to comply with the goals and principles of the UN Charter and other universally recognized norms of international law in the joint fight against terrorism," the ambassador said.

All countries "should step up coordination and contacts, resolve their disagreements, and adopt and implement a complex strategy," he said.

"China supports national security efforts of other countries, including Russia. We understand and support international anti-terrorism operations based on norms of international law and approved by the relevant state," the diplomat said.

He offered condolences in connection with the death of the Russian Sukhoi Su-24 pilot in Syria. "Our deep condolences over the recent incident in which a Russian warplane was shot down during an anti-terrorism mission and its pilot died. We urge the international community to enhance coordination in the fight against terrorism in order to avoid similar incidents in the future," the ambassador said.

He noted that "Russian President Vladimir Putin called for the creation of a joint anti-terrorism front under the UN aegis in his address to the Federal Assembly."

Speaking of the situation in Syria, Li Hui said that the problem was for a long time not being duly addressed. "As a result, the violent activity of terrorist and extremist forces in Syrian territory has become even bolder and has been rapidly spreading across the world, which creates a situation of constantly deepening international humanitarian crisis," the ambassador said.

"Cooperation in the field of law enforcement and security based on anti-terrorism efforts has always been a priority of the SCO," he said.

"We are set to strengthen cooperation with Russia in the bilateral and SCO formats, to pool efforts in the anti-terrorism area, to have 'zero tolerance' in the fight against terrorist forces, to fight terrorism in a high-intensity regime, to actively promote cooperation in such areas as the fight against transnational organized crime, cyber crime and drug crime and to bolster resistance to security threats and challenges in order to make a worthy contribution to global and regional stability and security," Li Hui said.
