Russian foreign ministry demands that U.S. stops its 'hunt' for Russians in third countries

MOSCOW. Dec 11 (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry has called on Washington to abandon its practice of prosecuting Russians in third countries through U.S. law enforcement agencies.

"We demand cessation of the 'hunt' for Russian nationals conducted by U.S. law enforcement agencies in third countries," the ministry said in a statement published on its website on Friday.

"Our focus is on protecting the rights of adopted Russian children who were abused by their American adoptive parents," the ministry said.

"The situation in the Russia-U.S. relations remains difficult," but "Russia is consistent in its emphasizing the need to uphold the principles of equality, mutual respect and non-interference with internal affairs in the relations," it said.

"Thus, we continue, jointly with Washington, working in the direction where such interaction corresponds with the interests of Russia and international security. The counteraction against terrorism is one of the most central parts in our dialogue," the ministry said.
