Gryzlov's appointment to lend new impetus to Contact Group on Ukraine - Kosachyov

MOSCOW. Dec 26 (Interfax) - The appointment of Boris Gryzlov as Russia's representative in the Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine will give a "second breath" to the Group, says Konstantin Kosachyov, head of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs.

"I am certain that Boris Vyacheslavovich Gryzlov will be able to give a second breath to the group's activity, so badly needed in a situation where Kyiv has deliberately protracted the implementation of the Minsk agreements," Kosachyov told Interfax on Saturday.

Gryzlov's appointment as representative is a timely decision that confirms the importance Russia attaches to the efforts of the Contact Group, he said.

"Here, two circumstances are equally important: his status as a permanent member in the (Russian) Security Council - and that is the possibility to promptly agree on and resolve all issues concerning Russian assistance to the crisis resolution in Ukraine, and the personal qualities of Boris Vyacheslavovich [Gryzlov], his huge professional experience as parliament chairman, a political party and faction leader and interior minister," the senator said.
