Sevastopol Legislative Assembly speaker Chaly's resignation surprises governor
SIMFEROPOL. Dec 29 (Interfax) - Sevastopol Governor Sergei Menyailo has described Alexei Chaly's decision to resign as chairman of the city's Legislative Assembly as 'unexpected' and 'emotional'.
"This has come as an absolute surprise to me. I treat his choice with respect, but something suggests to me that emotions have gone overboard in him once again," Menyailo's press secretary Kirill Moskalenko quoted him as saying in an interview with Interfax.
There are objective and subjective problems in Sevastopol, which can only be resolved jointly by the city government and legislature, he said.
"I am calling on Alexei Mikhailovich [Chaly] once again to work constructively for the good of Sevastopol and its residents," Menyailo said.
Chaly had announced his decision to resign at a Legislative Assembly session earlier on Tuesday.
