As OSCE chairman, Germany to include Ukrainian settlement in its priorities - diplomat
KYIV. Jan 27 (Interfax) - The settlement of the situation in eastern Ukraine will be among the priorities under the German chairmanship in the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), the German Embassy in Ukraine said.
"Germany is very much interested in the operation of a common system of security and trust in Europe," Deputy Ambassador of Germany to Ukraine Wolfgang Bindseil said during the 'round table' titled 'Ukraine and the Priorities of the German Chairmanship in the OSCE' and organized jointly by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, KAS) and the Ukrainian Center for Independent Political Research.
The OSCE is currently going through a crisis situation and Germany plans to work on restoration of trust in the Organization and consolidation of security, Bindseil said.
He also noted that the efforts of the German government will be directed towards settling the situation in Ukraine's Donbas region. "Of course, the Ukrainian crisis will dominate our entire chairmanship," Bindseil said.
"We currently live in crisis times; this crisis is caused by some unprecedented challenges and violations of international law. It is important to support these principles and we are not going to compromise," he said.
"Given the situation, the OSCE remains one of the main pillars of the European order of security," Bindseil said.
