UWC unit starts shipping railcar springs to Wabtec U.S. division

MOSCOW. Feb 16 (Interfax) - Springs Industrial Technology Center (NPC Springs), a division of Russia's United Wagon Company (UWC), has begun shipping its products to the United States.

Under the entered agreements, NPC Springs will be supplying up to 10,000 sets of railcar springs annually to Cardwell Westinghouse, a division of Wabtec Corporation, for the next two years, UWC said in a press release.

"The volume of deliveries is penciled in to reach 20,000 sets per annum in the future. The products of domestic manufacture will be used as component parts of draft gears of freight railcars," the company said.

The performance specifications of the supplied springs provide cyclic durability that complies with higher requirements for devices of this type on U.S. railroads. The technology of high-temperature thermomechanical treatment of steel applied in the manufacturing process of NPC Springs ensures the increased performance specifications of the springs, UWC said.

Working with the Russian manufacturer will enable Wabtec Corporation to diversify supplies of component parts and obtain highly competitive products, UWC said.
