DPR militia says Ukrainian shell hit school building in Staromykhailivka
DONETSK. Feb 18 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian Armed Forces shelled the village of Staromykhailivka, hitting a local school, the headquarters of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) reported.
"The Ukrainian Armed Forces opened fire on Staromykhailivka overnight. A school [building] sustained a direct hit," the DPR headquarters told journalists in Zaitseve.
An Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe mission, as well as Eduard Basurin of the DPR Defense Ministry and other ministry representatives, have arrived in Staromykhailivka, an Interfax correspondent reported from the scene.
The Donetsk news agency has reported, citing a source in the self-proclaimed republic's security agencies, that last night the Ukrainian Armed Forces also opened fire on the village of Zhabycheve and the village of Spartak near Donetsk airport.
"The strikes against the localities of Zhabycheve and Spartak began at around 10:30 p.m.," the source said.
The strikes were carried out from the Ukrainian army's positions in the villages of Nevelske and Peski, he noted.
"In the course of the shelling, the adversary used 82mm mortars 11 times, and 120mm mortars up to five times. In addition to this, grenade launchers and small arms were also used," the source added.
For its part, the press center of Kyiv's army operation in eastern Ukraine has reported that Ukrainian military positions in Donbas have come under fire 47 times in the past 24 hours.
