Nine violations of truce observed in Syria over past day - Russian center

MOSCOW. Feb 28 (Interfax) - Nine violations of truce have been observed in Syria over the past day but the truce is being fulfilled in general, Lt. Gen. Sergei Kuralenko, head of the Russian center for reconciliation of warring sides in Syria, told Interfax on Sunday.

"Nine violations of the regime of the cessation of hostilities have been observed over the past day, including reported attacks on the town of Kabana in the Latakia province," he said.

Besides, the Syrian border was trespassed "by a group of up to 100 militants from Turkey; that group together with other rings took over northern parts of the town of Tell Abyad, 82 kilometers north of al-Raqqah. The operation of the rings was supported by artillery fire from the Turkish territory. By the morning of February 28, Kurdish opposition units pushed out the militants from the town," he said.

The Russian center asked the Amman-based U.S. center for reconciliation for information about attacks on the Syrian territory from Turkey, a member of the U.S.-led anti-ISIL coalition.

"On the whole, the regime of the cessation of hostilities in the territory of Syria is being fulfilled," he said.

In line with the agreements, the Russian center for reconciliation of warring sides in Syria will release daily news bulletin containing current information about the reconciliation of warring sides.

"The information will be delivered by means of established communication channels to the Amman-based U.S. center for reconciliation and the working group in Geneva and will be posted on the official website of the Russian Defense Ministry," Kuralenko said.

The bulletin will contain information about the process of reconciliation between the warring sides, humanitarian aid to the Syrian population and results of control over the fulfillment of the regime of the cessation of hostilities, he said.
