Baku interested in further promoting trade with Russia - President Aliyev
BAKU. March 4 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan is vigorously working to increase the volume of trade with Russia, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said at a meeting with a Russian delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, on Thursday.
"Our country is interested in Russian export traditionally holding an important place, even the first place in Azerbaijani import," Aliyev said.
At his meeting with Rogozin, Azerbaijan's president noted the successful development of cooperation between the two countries in all areas. Baku attaches great importance to promoting ties with Russia both at the bilateral level and within regional organizations, Aliyev said, adding that the two countries' appropriate institutions are acting alike in this regard.
"Azerbaijan and Russia have vigorous political relations," Aliyev said, stressing that mutual understanding has been achieved on most issues on the agenda during regular contacts between the leaders of the two states.
Rogozin's visit offers a good opportunity to once again address topics on the bilateral agenda of Russia and Azerbaijan, he said.
"Today, both countries characterize bilateral relations as ties between strategic partners," Aliyev said.
